The Month the Earth Stood Still
I just had to write something before I enter another fabulous email from Sister Julie Carlson. Our world is going through a PANDEMIC like I’v never experienced in my lifetime. It started over in China around five months ago and it has spread like wildfire. It’s called the Coronavirus or what’s known as Covid-19. The virus has spread all over the world and our church is now sending most of the missionaries home. It’s crazy!
All the schools are closed, we don’t attend church meetings in our building, and now the restaurants have closed unless you do a pick up or drive by order. Everyone is supposed to stay at home and only go out for groceries or emergency events that only include small groups of ten. The stores are even out of toilet paper most of the time unless you stand in long lines early in the morning. Hand sanitizer, vitamins and Clorox are also gone. Last Thursday I was caught in big lines after work at the grocery store. The shelves were almost bare in the canned food section and it was if we were preparing for a hurricane or something.
I have been asked to set up a program called Zoom on my computer. That way I can watch the Kindergarten teacher I work with teach six year olds. I’m having so much fun looking at their bright happy faces! Mrs. Gunn is such a wonderful, patient person and all the kids from our class really love her. Now Kaye Eldredge and I get to figure out how to assist Linda while she teaches other reading groups. That’s going to be interesting.
GW is also working at home. I wish he could always work at home since it’s fun to visit and take breaks together. Our oldest son Jacob works for Costco in Spanish Fork. (which is a crazy place when it comes to crowd control) His wife Brittany delivers mail to the doctors across the street from the hospital. Number one daughter Jenny Rebecca is teaching Middle School Science on line, but working at home with her husband. (who has always been working at home writing a book) except when he goes and cleans carpets with his brother Jesse Samuel. Speaking of Jesse Samuel, he answers phones at Utah Valley Hospital and is taking classes from UVU on line. His wife who is our third daughter Jessie Whitney is in San Diego California for spring break and we don’t know when she’s coming home. The state of California is talking about closing their boarders!
Everything is slowing way down as if time is stopping for a while and I just don’t know what to think about it. To top it off Utah had a 5.7 earth quake at 7:08 am this morning and both GW and I felt it! That’s also a first and I’ve lived in Utah most of my life!! We must be getting close to the Second Coming. Everything is so different that I feel more vulnerable and I worry about family and friends. But on the other hand I also feel peace. We have a missionary in Oregon. She doesn’t want me to worry about everything and get all upset. Thank goodness we have been blessed with a living Prophet on the earth today! My prayers feel more sincere and we have been working on getting our food supply up to date. It just feels like it’s time to get our lives in order, then try and help others out as well. Please warm weather come soon. I just hope and pray at the end of this month things start moving forward again.
