First Day of Church. Memoir from Marci

GW and I finally attended Sacrament meeting for the first time in almost three months! We made sure we were wearing our mask when we entered the building to our church. Then we were greeted by an elderly usher who was Brother Eliason. He escorted us to an empty bench with dark blue duck tape on the benches behind and in front of us. I noticed Sister Caroline Cook sat on the same bench as us only on the other side. Our ward has three Sacrament meetings today, we went to the 9:00 am meeting since our last name begins with C.

There were not very many members due to the three meetings but the spirit was strong and I forgot how much I missed feeling the spirit in the chapel! There were no hymn books so when we go again on the 5th of July we’ll make sure we take our phones so we can see the words. The young men did an excellent job passing the sacrament and making sure the bread was spread out on the tray and the cups of water did not touch.

Bishop Parke was our only speaker and he did an excellent job relating some important life experiences he had on his mission in Spain. He also reminded us that we are actually fighting two epidemics since riots have been breaking out all over the United States due to a police officer killing a black man in the State of Michigan. My neighbor actually has a sign in her window that says, “Black Lives Matter”. Bishop Parke strongly emphasized that we are to have Christ like love for all people even though we may have differences. He reminded us of the story of the Good Samaritan. I am so grateful for Bishop Parke and his 4 1/2 years of service as our bishop of the Lakeside 6th ward. He and his family have truly been a blessing.
Now I need to go help disinfect the bathrooms since the third Sacrament meeting is almost over. Until next time.
